Winter Car Washing in the Rocky Mountains

It’s winter in the Rocky Mountains, and that can mean a lot of hard conditions for your vehicle or sleigh if you do any kind of driving. Whether you are going across the town or the country, hazardous road conditions such as snow, ice, ice melt, and salt can really do a number on your vehicle and your vehicle’s paint job. But what, specifically, can you do to prevent chipped and pitted paint?

Floor Mats and Ice Buildup

Snow may look clean and pure, but the truth is, snow is dirty. The air absorbs chemicals as they evaporate off the ground, turns it into snow, and then we track that snow into our vehicles and onto our floor mats. Before you even start the time in a self-serve bay, consider grabbing your floor mats out, and throwing them up on a mat clip to be power washed with hot, soapy water.

Ice can build up in the wheel wells and make braking and turning even more hazardous. The hot soapy water can also help to melt down problem icy areas on your vehicle and is a great option for a first rinse around the car.

 Tires and Road Grime

Your tires will pick up a ton of filth in the winter months. Even more important than at any other time, you should soak your de-iced tires and any other spots along the sides of your vehicle that look like they’ve picked up some road grime with the tire cleaner function. The tire cleaner is made for non-biological material and can help safely lift and remove brake pad metals and other road salts from your vehicle.

After you’ve put the tire cleaner on, take a roundabout on those same areas with the foam brush. The tire cleaner alone can lift the grime, but is not always sufficient to clean your car completely. With a small amount of brushing, your vehicle will become much cleaner.

 Final Rinse and Clear Coat

Use the high pressure rinse function as your final rinse to blast all the soap and road scum off your vehicle for a super clean wash. Follow this with the clear coat function to give your paint an extra layer of protection against the winter elements, and to help bead any water and wet snow off your vehicle in a future snowfall.

For a final touch, be sure to use the spot free rinse very last. You’ll see the effect of the clear coat take place immediately and will have a super smooth, clean rinse on your car with no spotting, even on black vehicles or red sleighs.
